Samaritan Inn Shelter

The Samaritan Inn shelter opened in 1988, as a collaboration between five downtown churches: First Presbyterian, First Baptist on Fifth, Centenary United Methodist, St. Paul’s Episcopal, and Augsburg Lutheran. Today Samaritan serves homeless men who need safe, temporary shelter for a maximum of 90 days. All shelter guests are referred to appropriate agencies for further assistance with medical care, job training, temporary housing, and other needs. The Samaritan Inn offers round-the-clock shelter to any homeless man who would like a safe place to rest, as well as a refuge that offers redirection from some of the challenges he’s faced.

In 2023, we offered 19,248 nights of shelter to over 452 different homeless men. Shelter is free for our guests, but each 24-hour period of shelter costs $44.66 and includes three nutritious meals, clean linens, well-kept guest showers, and access to a guest laundry room.

"It's a blessing that there are avenues to give the homeless a home, and to let them know life has a lot more to offer."
