Samaritan’s new Soup Kitchen Manager comes with 28 years of food service experience in the corporate world. Derrick Newkirk most recently worked for Aramark as a general manager for the cafeteria at the Ralph Lauren Corporation in Greensboro.
For Newkirk, who began his career in food service for a Christian ministry, Samaritan was a chance to return to his roots.
“I’m excited about bringing 28 years of experience to the ministry,” he said.
He has worked in food service for Volvo of North America, Shaw University, Winston-Salem State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Newkirk hopes to help Samaritan cut its food costs while preparing more nutritious meals for guests. He looks forward to a chance to get creative in Samaritan’s new professional kitchen, which will allow he and his staff to prepare dishes that they couldn’t in the old Soup Kitchen.
